9th Class Science Pairing Scheme 2027 Punjab Board

The 9th class science pairing scheme of the Punjab Board shows how each paper is built: the marks of every subject, the split between MCQs, short questions and long questions, and the chapters paired in each question. This page covers Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Computer Science for students of the Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur boards.

What is a pairing scheme?

A pairing scheme is the plan the board follows to set a paper. It tells you three things: how the marks are divided between the objective part (MCQs) and the subjective part (short and long questions), how many questions you have to attempt, and which chapters are put together, or paired, in each question.

For a 9th class science student this is the most useful page to read before the exams. It does not give you the questions, but it shows you where the marks are, so you can plan your preparation around chapter groups instead of reading everything with equal weight.

How chapters are paired in each subject

Physics

The nine chapters are arranged in three groups: chapters 1 to 3, 4 to 6 and 7 to 9. Each of the three short questions and each of the three long questions is taken from one group. Study a group together, because a long question can come from any chapter in it. See also 9th and 10th class Physics online.

Chemistry

Short questions come from chapters 1 to 4, 5 to 8 and 9 to 11. The long questions pair chapters 1 and 2, chapters 3 and 7, and chapters 8 and 10. In the MCQs, chapters 1 to 10 carry one MCQ each and chapter 11 carries two. See also 9th and 10th class Chemistry online.

Biology

The short questions are grouped as chapters 4, 5, 6 and 10, then chapters 1, 2 and 3, then chapters 7, 8, 9 and 11. The long questions pair chapters 5 and 3, chapters 6 and 7, and chapters 9 and 10. Chapter 9 carries two MCQs and every other chapter carries one. See also 9th and 10th class Biology online.

Mathematics

The paper is 75 marks with 15 MCQs. You attempt any 6 short questions in each of three sets, then two long questions of 8 marks from three, and one more long question of 8 marks from two. Practise every exercise of the book instead of picking only a few. See also 9th and 10th class Maths online.

Computer Science

The paper is 50 marks: 10 MCQs and 40 marks of written questions. Alongside theory, practise writing programs and logic steps by hand. See also 9th and 10th class Computer Science online.

How to prepare using the pairing scheme

  1. Mark the chapter groups. Write the groups of each subject on one page and stick it above your desk.
  2. Divide your weeks by groups. Finish one group, then revise the previous one, before you start the next.
  3. Practise the objective part separately. Chapter-wise MCQs show quickly which chapters you only half know.
  4. Practise short and long questions the way the paper asks them. Write full answers with the steps, not only the final result.
  5. Do not drop a chapter completely. Choices help, but a skipped chapter can still appear in the MCQs.
  6. Use the guess paper for important questions. It is a revision list, not the paper itself.
  7. Test yourself under time. Solve a past paper in the real time limit once every week near the exams.

Common mistakes students make

  • Studying only the chapters that seem easy, and leaving a whole group untouched.
  • Memorising a list of guessed questions instead of understanding the chapter.
  • Ignoring the MCQs until the last week, when they carry a fixed share of marks in every paper.
  • Following a pairing scheme picture from a social media post without checking it against the official notice of the board.
  • Never practising under time, and then running out of time in the exam hall.

Where to check your board notices

Your board publishes its own notices, and they decide in case of any difference. You can check the official websites of BISE Lahore and BISE Gujranwala, and the website of your own board. Frequently asked questions

What is the pairing scheme for 9th class science?

The pairing scheme is the paper-setting plan of the Punjab Board. It shows how the 9th class paper of each subject is divided into MCQs, short questions and long questions, how many marks each part carries, and which chapters are grouped together in each question.

How many marks is each 9th class science paper?

Under the new syllabus pattern, Physics, Chemistry and Biology are 60 marks each, Mathematics (science group) is 75 marks and Computer Science is 50 marks. Always match these figures with the scheme image on this page and the notice of your board.

Is this pairing scheme the same for all Punjab boards?

Students of BISE Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur all study the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board syllabus, and this page is written for all nine boards. If your board issues a separate notice, follow your own board.

Does the pairing scheme tell me which questions will come?

No. It shows the pattern of the paper and the chapter groups, not the actual questions. Use it to decide how to divide your study time, and then practise questions from every chapter in the group.

Which subjects does the 9th class science group study?

Science group students study Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and take Biology or Computer Science according to their group, along with the compulsory subjects. This page covers all five science subjects.

How should I use the pairing scheme with guess papers and past papers?

First read the pairing scheme to see how each paper is built. Then prepare chapter by chapter, practise the guess paper for important questions, and solve past papers under time to check your speed.
