9th Class Maths Pairing Scheme 2027 Punjab Board

Maths is the longest paper of the science group: 75 marks with 15 MCQs, 36 marks of short questions and 24 marks of long questions. This page explains that pattern for students of the Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur boards.

How the 75 marks of Maths are built

Total marks75
MCQs (objective part)15 MCQs, 15 marks
Written part60 marks
Short questionsThree questions, attempt any 6 in each (36 marks)
Long questionsAttempt any 2 of 3 with 8 marks each (16 marks), plus any 1 of 2 with 8 marks (8 marks)

The objective part is 15 MCQs. The written part is 60 marks: 36 from three sets of short questions of 2 marks each, where you attempt any 6 in every set, and 24 from long questions. For the long part you attempt any 2 of 3 questions of 8 marks each, and then any 1 of 2 more questions of 8 marks.

Reading the Maths scheme

Maths does not ask you to read a paper in pairs the way Chemistry and Biology do. Instead, the paper is long and every set has a count: six short questions in each of three sets, then two long questions, then one more long question.

That makes speed and accuracy as important as knowledge. A student who knows every chapter but needs a long time for each question will run short of time in the hall.

Because there is a choice inside each set, learn to read a whole set first and pick the questions you can finish cleanly before you start writing.

A practice plan for the Maths paper

  1. Solve every exercise of the book on paper and keep a mistakes page for the questions you missed.
  2. Practise graphs and constructions with a ruler, compass and protractor, since they need neatness and steps.
  3. Rewrite one formula page per chapter from memory every week.
  4. Time a full set of six short questions, and then a long question of 8 marks, and note how long each takes.
  5. Build the final fortnight on mixed sets: some Trigonometry, some Coordinate Geometry, some Probability in one sitting.

Maths mistakes that cost marks

  • Copying a solved example without trying the question first.
  • Stopping at the final answer without showing the steps.
  • Avoiding graphs and constructions because they take longer.
  • Never practising a complete paper in the real time limit.

When the pattern is clear, practise with the 9th class Maths guess paper, and learn the lectures in Mathematics online.

Frequently asked questions

How many marks is the 9th class Maths paper for the science group?

The paper is 75 marks. There are 15 MCQs, three sets of short questions that carry 36 marks, and long questions that carry 24 marks.

How many short questions do I attempt in Maths?

There are three sets of short questions, and you attempt any 6 in each set. Each short question carries 2 marks.

How do the Maths long questions work?

You attempt any 2 of 3 long questions of 8 marks each, and then any 1 of 2 more long questions of 8 marks.

I am a BISE Rawalpindi student. Is the Maths pattern different for me?

Rawalpindi students study the same Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board syllabus as the other boards, and this page is meant for all nine. If your board issues a separate notice, follow it.

How much time should I spend on graphs and constructions?

Enough to draw them cleanly and quickly. Practise a few from each relevant chapter every week, because neatness comes only from repetition.

Where can I learn Maths chapter by chapter?

The Creative Taleem app has chapter-wise Maths lectures with solved exercises and quizzes, so you can work through the book in the order of the scheme.
