Long-question pairs and short-question sections in Biology
The first long question joins Tissues, Organs and Organ Systems (chapter 5) with The Cell (chapter 3). The second joins Biomolecules (chapter 6) with Enzymes (chapter 7). The third joins Plant Physiology (chapter 9) with Reproduction in Plants (chapter 10).
The short questions are in three sections: chapters 4, 5, 6 and 10; chapters 1, 2 and 3; and chapters 7, 8, 9 and 11. Note that the sections do not follow the order of the book.
Chapter 9, Plant Physiology, carries two MCQs while every other chapter carries one, which makes it worth an extra revision.
How to prepare Biology around its pairs
- Study each long-question pair as a story: for example, the cell first and then the tissues built from cells.
- Draw every diagram of the pair yourself and label it from memory before you write the answer.
- Prepare the short questions by the three sections of the scheme, so that you can answer five of eight in each one.
- Learn the definitions on cards, and add a one-line example to each.
- Write one long answer per pair with headings and a diagram, and compare it with the textbook.
Biology answers that lose marks
- Drawing a diagram and forgetting to label it.
- Writing a long answer as one block with no headings.
- Preparing the two chapters of a pair at different times.
- Skipping Biostatistics because it looks like Maths.

Which Biology chapters are paired in the long questions?
Chapters 5 and 3, chapters 6 and 7, and chapters 9 and 10. You attempt any two of the three long questions.
What are the three sections of the Biology short questions?
Chapters 4, 5, 6 and 10; chapters 1, 2 and 3; and chapters 7, 8, 9 and 11. From each of the three sections you choose 5 of the 8 parts.
Which Biology chapter carries two MCQs?
Chapter 9, Plant Physiology, carries two. Every other chapter carries one MCQ.
I am a BISE Multan student. Is Biology different for my board?
Multan students study the same Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board syllabus as the other boards, and this page is meant for all nine. If Multan issues a separate notice, follow it.
Do I need to study Biology if I take Computer Science?
No. The science group takes Biology or Computer Science, not both. If you study Computer Science, use the Computer Science pairing scheme instead of this page.
