12th Class Physics Pairing Scheme 2027 Punjab Board

Part-II Physics is a ten-chapter book that moves from electric fields to the nucleus, and its theory paper is worth 85 marks. The long questions come in five fixed pairs and you answer three, so the pairs tell you which chapters are examined together. This page lays out the pattern for students of the Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur boards.

How the 85 theory marks of Physics are spread

Theory paper85 marks
MCQs (objective part)17 MCQs, 17 marks
Short questionsThree questions: any 8 of 12, any 8 of 12 and any 6 of 9 (44 marks)
Long questionsFive questions, attempt any 3 (24 marks), each with a 5-mark part and a 3-mark part

The paper opens with 17 one-mark MCQs. The written part has two layers: three groups of short questions, where you choose 8 of 12, 8 of 12 and 6 of 9, and five long questions of which three must be answered. Added up, that is 17 + 44 + 24 = 85. The practical exam is separate and is not part of this scheme.

Ten chapters, numbered 12 to 21

The Part-II book carries on the numbering of Part-I, so its first chapter is number 12. The table also shows how many MCQs each chapter contributes.

The five long-question pairs and what they ask of you

A long question joins two chapters. Chapters 12 and 13 go together, so do 14 and 15, 16 and 18, 17 and 19, and 20 and 21. Since three of the five are answered, two pairs can be left, but they still send questions into the short and MCQ parts.

Look at the third and fourth pairs: chapter 18 sits with 16 and chapter 19 sits with 17, so the pairs do not follow the order of the book. Plan revision around the pair, not around the page number.

Chapters 13, 17 and 20 give one MCQ each, and the other seven chapters give two. That makes the objective part spread out almost evenly, with no chapter that can be ignored.

A pair-by-pair plan for Part-II Physics

  1. Give each pair about a week. Read both chapters, solve their numericals, and then write one long answer that has a 5-mark part from the first chapter and a 3-mark part from the second.
  2. Keep one symbol sheet for the whole book. The same letter often means different quantities in different chapters, and a wrong symbol ruins a numerical that was otherwise correct.
  3. Practise the short questions by their three groups with a timer, and notice how many of the twelve you could safely skip.
  4. After every pair, answer a handful of MCQs from both chapters while the reading is fresh.
  5. In the final fortnight, mix three different pairs in one sitting and treat it as a dress rehearsal.

Where Part-II Physics marks slip away

  • Learning a derivation without knowing what each step assumes.
  • Dropping the unit from the last line of a numerical.
  • Reading the two chapters of a pair weeks apart, so that the link between them is lost.
  • Putting the 17 MCQs off until the final days of revision.

Frequently asked questions

How are the 85 theory marks of 12th class Physics divided?

There are 17 marks of MCQs, 44 marks of short questions (16 + 16 + 12) and 24 marks of long questions. The practical exam is separate.

Which Physics chapters go together in a long question?

Chapters 12 and 13, chapters 14 and 15, chapters 16 and 18, chapters 17 and 19, and chapters 20 and 21. Three of the five long questions are answered.

How many MCQs does each Physics chapter carry?

Chapters 13, 17 and 20 carry one MCQ each. Chapters 12, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19 and 21 carry two each, which gives 17.

I study under the Multan board. Is my Physics scheme different?

Multan and the other eight Punjab boards teach from the same textbook, and this page is meant for all of them. If your own board sends a separate notice, that notice decides.

Can I leave out two pairs of chapters in Physics?

The rule lets you skip two of the five long questions, but those chapters can still appear in the short questions and the MCQs. Skipping them is a gamble.

Where can I study Part-II Physics chapter by chapter?

The Creative Taleem app has chapter-wise Physics lectures, MCQs and an AI tutor, so you can follow the pairs in the order they are examined.
