How the 100 marks of Maths are built
| Paper | 100 marks, theory only |
|---|---|
| MCQs (objective part) | 20 MCQs, 20 marks |
| Short questions | Three questions: any 8 of 12, any 8 of 12 and any 9 of 13 |
| Long questions | Five questions, attempt any 3 |
The paper begins with 20 MCQs. After them come three short-question sets with generous choice: 8 of 12, 8 of 12 and 9 of 13. The long part has five questions from which any three are answered. The rest of the 100 marks, after the MCQs, is therefore written work.

| 3 | Integration | 4 |
| 4 | Introduction to Analytic Geometry | 3 |

Reading the choices inside the Maths paper
Maths differs from Chemistry and Biology because the choices are inside question sets and not between fixed chapter pairs. You choose 8 of 12, 8 of 12 and 9 of 13 in the short part, then any 3 of the 5 long questions.
The MCQ table makes the weight of the book clear: Differentiation and Integration carry four MCQs each, and Linear Inequalities and Linear Programming carries one. A chapter with a small MCQ share is not necessarily a small chapter elsewhere in the paper.
With so many questions in a single sitting, choosing well is a skill. Read a whole set, mark the parts you can finish in a few lines, and begin with them.
A solving plan for Part-II Maths
- Solve every exercise of the first three chapters in full, because Functions and Limits, Differentiation and Integration together carry ten of the twenty MCQs.
- Keep a differentiation and integration rules sheet and write it from memory every Sunday.
- Practise conic-section and vector questions with a diagram, since a sketch often shows the first step.
- Time a whole set of 8 of 12 short questions and then one long question, and write down how long each took.
- In the last fortnight, solve full-length papers in one sitting and mark them as the examiner would, step by step.
Maths errors that cost marks late in the paper
- Memorising a worked example instead of solving a new one.
- Skipping the diagram in a geometry question.
- Stopping at an answer without checking the algebra once.
- Using the whole time on the long questions and leaving the short set half done.
Once the pattern is clear, practise with the 12th class Maths guess paper. Planning the whole year? See the FSc and ICS pages.
Frequently asked questions
How many marks is the 12th class Maths paper?
It is a 100-mark theory paper. There are 20 MCQs, and the rest is short and long written questions.
How do the Maths short questions work?
There are three sets. You answer any 8 of 12 in the first, any 8 of 12 in the second and any 9 of 13 in the third.
How many long questions do I attempt in Maths?
The paper has five long questions and you attempt any three.
I study under the Dera Ghazi Khan board. Is the Maths pattern different?
DG Khan and the other eight Punjab boards use the same textbook, and this page covers all nine. If your board issues a separate notice, follow that one.
Which Maths chapters carry the most MCQs?
Differentiation and Integration carry four each, then Introduction to Analytic Geometry, Conic Sections and Vectors with three each.
Where can I learn Part-II Maths chapter by chapter?
The Creative Taleem app offers chapter-wise Maths lectures with solved exercises and MCQs, so you can follow the book in the order of the scheme.
