12th Class Chemistry Pairing Scheme 2027 Punjab Board

Part-II Chemistry is the longest science book of the year: sixteen chapters that start with the periodic table, run through organic chemistry and end with industry and the environment. The 85-mark theory paper copes with that length by cutting the short questions into three chapter groups and joining far-apart chapters in its long questions. Students of the Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur boards can use this overview.

The 85-mark Chemistry paper at a glance

Theory paper85 marks
MCQs (objective part)17 MCQs, 17 marks
Short questionsThree questions: any 8 of 12, any 8 of 12 and any 6 of 9 (44 marks)
Long questionsFive questions, attempt any 3 (24 marks)

Every chapter gives one MCQ except Macromolecules, which gives two, so the objective part is 17 marks. The short questions are split into three groups of chapters, with a different attempt rule in each. Five long questions follow and three are answered. Together, 17 + 44 + 24 make 85.

Short-question groups and long-question pairs in Chemistry

The long questions pair chapters 1 and 2, 6 and 16, 7 and 12, 8 and 10, and 9 and 11. A pair such as 6 and 16, which joins Transition Elements with Environmental Chemistry, shows how the board likes to put a pure inorganic topic beside an applied one.

Six chapters, namely 3, 4, 5, 13, 14 and 15, are not in any long pair. They are reached only through short questions and MCQs, so they are the chapters students most often under-read.

The short-question table shows which chapters feed each group. Since you choose 8 of 12 twice and 6 of 9 once, you can drop a few parts in every group, but not a whole chapter without noticing the cost.

Reading Chemistry along the reaction chain

  1. Treat chapters 7 to 13 as one chain: hydrocarbons, halides, alcohols and ethers, carbonyl compounds and acids. Draw a single page of conversions that links them and redraw it each week.
  2. For the inorganic chapters, make comparison tables of elements within a group and read them aloud, because trends are what short questions ask for.
  3. Study every long-question pair as a unit once, even when its two chapters are far apart in the book.
  4. Give chapters 3, 4, 5, 13, 14 and 15 their own revision slots, since no long pair will pull you into them.
  5. Use chapter-wise MCQ sets to check that each of the sixteen chapters has been tested at least once.

Slips that cost Chemistry marks

  • Writing a conversion without the reagent or the condition.
  • Memorising trends of a group without being able to give the reason.
  • Forgetting that Macromolecules carries two MCQs.
  • Leaving the industry and environment chapters for the last night.

Once the pattern is clear, practise with the 12th class Chemistry guess paper. Planning the whole year? See the FSc and ICS pages.

Frequently asked questions

Which Chemistry chapters go together in a long question?

Chapters 1 and 2, chapters 6 and 16, chapters 7 and 12, chapters 8 and 10, and chapters 9 and 11. Any three of the five are attempted.

How are the short questions divided among Chemistry chapters?

Question 2 draws from chapters 1 to 4, 15 and 16, question 3 from chapters 5 to 8, 12 and 13, and question 4 from chapters 9 to 11 and 14. The attempt rules are 8 of 12, 8 of 12 and 6 of 9.

How many MCQs are there in Chemistry and which chapter has two?

There are 17 MCQs. Each of the sixteen chapters has one, and chapter 14, Macromolecules, has two.

Studying under the Sargodha board, do I follow another Chemistry pattern?

Sargodha students use the same textbook as the other eight Punjab boards, and this page covers all nine. A separate notice from your own board would take priority.

Is studying only the paired chapters enough?

No. Six chapters are outside the pairs and still supply short questions and MCQs. The pairs describe the long questions only.

Where can I learn Part-II Chemistry step by step?

The Creative Taleem app offers chapter-wise Chemistry lectures with quizzes and flashcards, so you can move through the pairs and groups in order.
