What the 85-mark Biology paper contains
| Theory paper | 85 marks |
|---|---|
| MCQs (objective part) | 17 MCQs, 17 marks |
| Short questions | Three questions: any 8 of 12, any 8 of 12 and any 6 of 9 (44 marks) |
| Long questions | Five questions, attempt any 3 (24 marks) |
Seventeen MCQs open the paper. The short questions then come in three groups, in which you answer 8 of 12, 8 of 12 and 6 of 9. At the end are five long questions, and three of them are to be answered. The totals work out as 17 + 44 + 24 = 85.

Reading the Biology long-question pairs
The five pairs are chapters 15 and 21, 16 and 25, 17 and 24, 18 and 22, and 19 and 23. In each pair the first chapter is early in the book and the second is late, so a student who reads strictly in order meets the two halves of a question far apart.
Chapters 20, 26 and 27 appear in no long pair. They are examined through MCQs and short questions, and chapter 20 is one of the four chapters that carry two MCQs each.
Four chapters, numbers 16, 17, 20 and 22, give two MCQs apiece, and the other nine give one. These four deserve an extra pass for the objective part.
| Long question | Paired chapters |
|---|---|
| Question 5 | Chapters 15 and 21 |
| Question 6 | Chapters 16 and 25 |
| Question 7 | Chapters 17 and 24 |
| Question 8 | Chapters 18 and 22 |
| Question 9 | Chapters 19 and 23 |
A plan for Biology built on the pairs
- Study a pair together: read the early chapter, then the late one, and list the points where they touch before you write an answer.
- Draw every diagram of the chapters in a pair on a blank page, and label them from memory before checking.
- Rehearse the short questions in their three groups of 8 of 12, 8 of 12 and 6 of 9, and see which questions you leave out and why.
- Prepare chapters 20, 26 and 27 on their own timetable, because the pairs will not pull you into them.
- Write each long answer with a heading and numbered points, then compare its order with the textbook.
Biology answers that lose marks quietly
- Producing a diagram with missing labels.
- Writing a long answer as a single paragraph with no structure.
- Reading the two chapters of a pair as unrelated topics.
- Overlooking the chapters that carry two MCQs.
Once the pattern is clear, practise with the 12th class Biology guess paper. Planning the whole year? See the FSc and ICS pages.
Frequently asked questions
Which Biology chapters go together in a long question?
Chapters 15 and 21, 16 and 25, 17 and 24, 18 and 22, and 19 and 23. Candidates answer three of the five.
How many MCQs does Biology have and where do they come from?
There are 17. Chapters 16, 17, 20 and 22 carry two each, and the other nine chapters, 15, 18, 19, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27, carry one each.
What is the attempt rule for the Biology short questions?
The three groups ask you to answer 8 of 12, 8 of 12 and 6 of 9, which makes 44 marks.
As a BISE Bahawalpur student, should I follow a different Biology scheme?
Bahawalpur follows the same textbook as the other Punjab boards, and this page is written for all nine. Your own board notice settles any difference.
Are chapter titles missing on purpose?
Yes. The scheme refers to chapters by number, and numbers are safer than titles that can differ between printings of the textbook.
Where can I learn Part-II Biology chapter by chapter?
The Creative Taleem app has chapter-wise Biology lectures, summaries and quizzes, so you can follow the pairs in sequence.
